USS SKIPJACK was the first ship in a series of six nuclear-powered attack submarines and the second ship in the Navy to bear the name. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on April 19, 1990, the SKIPJACK later entered the Navy’s Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash., and finished it on July 31, 1998.
