USS Barb (SSN 596)

One of the PERMIT - class nuclear-powered attack submarines, the USS BARB was the second ship in the Navy to bear the name of the fish. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on December 20, 1989, the USS BARB later entered the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash. Recycling was completed on March 14, 1996.

Accidents aboard USS BARB:

October 13, 196515 miles west of Oahu, Hi.
USS BARB and the USS SARGO (SSN 583) collide while on maneuvers in the Pacific. Minor damage resulted to the forward end of one submarine and to the mast and sail of the other one, but there were no injuries and both ships return to port unassisted.

The photo below shows the SARGO arriving at Pearl Harbor. Her bow damage is clearly visible.
