USS TUNNY was the 34th STURGEON - class attack submarine and the second ship in the Navy named after any of several oceanic fishes resembling the mackerel. Deactivated while still in commission on October 1, 1997, the TUNNY entered the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard the same day. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on March 13, 1998, recycling of the TUNNY was completed on October 27, 1998.
